The role

As part of our Maritime group, the Technical Writer will develop a range of technical documentation (print and online) relating to Saab’s 9LV combat management system across the full Royal Australian Navy (RAN) surface fleet.


Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Apply defence industry best practice and trends in technical writing
  • Develop product operation and maintenance manuals as required
  • Review and edit documents from technical writer peers and other team members
  • Work closely with software/hardware engineers to develop new and existing documentation
  • Validate documentation against the product


About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Writing in plain English
  • Writing and editing large and/or complex documents to an advanced level in FrameMaker or XML-based authoring tools to develop and maintain documentation
  • Writing technical publications in a hardware or software development environment, preferably in an Australian defence environment
  • Using graphical tools for manipulating and producing simple diagrams
  • Implementing configuration management and quality processes
  • Using Microsoft Word and Excel at an advanced level


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain a NV1 clearance. International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations also apply and your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
