Opportunity for ex-ADF members to provide direct support to individuals and their families.
Your new company
We are currently supporting one of our key Federal Government clients in the search for Community and Peer Advisors to join their WA Care Coordination Team.
Your new role
As the Community and Peer Advisor you will utilise your lived experience in the ADF to respectfully support and educate consumers on available community support services. You will work to identify and respond to the needs of vulnerable and at risk veterans and their families. Key responsibilities include:
- Role model behaviours which promote recovery and wellness
- Provide personalised support services to veterans and their families through the development of individualised strength-based assessments and plans
- Influence a recovery approach to service delivery for vulnerable or at risk veteran and defence force communities and families
- Co-facilitation of relevant group programs
- Provide feedback for ongoing development of clinical policies and procedures, particularly in relation to community engagement and development activities.
- Where appropriate, share knowledge gained through one's relevant lived experience and recovery during team meetings to promote awareness and understanding
What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed in this role you will:
- Lived experience as an ex-ADF member or partner/carer of a current serving or ex-ADF member
- Ability to respectfully and effectively utilise this experience to promote a recovery focused approach to support others
- Willingness to undertake relevant training and professional development, including completion of certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
- Working with Children (WWC) and/or Vulnerable People Checks/Clearance must be obtained prior to commencing in the position.
- Experience supporting veterans and/or their family members and promoting recovery orientated behaviour
- Experience in casework or other human services delivery
- Current WA Driver's License
- Demonstrates an understanding of psychosocial issues facing current and ex-serving ADF members and their families.
- Appropriately guide and support individuals in their recovery from mental illness using a strength based framework
- Demonstrates a personal commitment to strategies that support one's own level of self-care and well being.
