The Role
Satellite Communications Systems Program Office (SATCOMSPO) located in Brindabella Business Park, Canberra is seeking Engineers. SATCOMSPO acquires and sustains leading edge SATCOM equipment in support of Australian Defence Force operations, both here and overseas. In this role you will contribute to significant technology changes to Defence communication capabilities including projects JP9102 and JP2008.

This position requires stakeholder engagement (including industry) and therefore will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. We are seeking candidates with a diverse range of experience and backgrounds in engineering, including people who have gained their experience outside Defence and Government.

About our Team
Space Systems Branch has been established to acquire and sustain SATCOM systems, and be a trusted advisor of SATCOM systems for the Australian Defence Organisation. The SATCOM SPO team comprises professionals from various disciplines including project management, engineering, commercial, and logistics. This multi-disciplinary team is composed of highly skilled and motivated Australian Public Servants, Australian Defence Force personnel, and contracted personnel. The team operate in a high-tempo, dynamic environment. We are looking for experienced and high performing Engineers to help achieve our project objectives. The team works from Brindabella Park offices in Canberra and maintains close collaboration with other parts of Defence and other Government Agencies.

Our Ideal Candidate
SATCOM SPO is seeking highly motivated Engineers with an interest in delivering this strategically significant capability to the ADF. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of engineering management and the ability to continue to their develop leadership skills. Desired key attributes include:

Knowledge of the methodology, systems and procedures within the engineering management function;
  • Sound business acumen and commercial judgement;
  • A thorough understanding of engineering disciplines;
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to negotiate and build relationships with stakeholders; and
  • Organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve results and business objectives.
